Introduction.
The origin of the name Kilimanjaro is unknown. It has been variously interpreted to mean ‘Shinning mountain’ White Mountain and mountain springs, but even the language to which it belongs cannot be decided with certainty. Kilimanjaro is a great volcanic massif, on its 50-mile wide base. The most ancient peak, Shira (16,893 ft.), then Mawenzi, and the youngest Kibo at (19,340ft).Deep within its summit crater fumaroles still smolder in remembrance of its fiery past. As the highest Mountain on the continent, Kili is the number one trekking destination in Africa.
Machame Route.
Arrival at the airport of your own choice – either Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi Kenya or Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha Tanzania. You will be met by Soin Africa Safari representative and transfer to Moshi town for dinner and overnight.
Depart from your hotel for Kilimanjaro National Park. Arrive at the gate and start you hike to Machame Campsite. (3100m/ 10000ft) This is a hiking time of six hours through the rainforest. Lunch enroute, dinner and overnight at the Camp.
After breakfast, hike to Shira Campsite. The trek takes approximately 4 hours via the rainforest past the valley and a steep rocky range ending westwards a river gorge. Lunch enroute, dinner and overnight at the Camp. (3600m/ 12500ft)
From Shira, hike to Barranco Campsite, an average hiking time of six hours. We bypass the lava tower and pass the second junction, which brings us to the arrow glacier. The altitude is 4876m. We descend to Barranco Campsite for our third overnight on Kilimanjaro. (3860m/ 12795ft) Lunch enroute, dinner and overnight at the Camp.
Breakfast, then attempt Breach Wall towards Karanga valley and the junction, which connects with the Mweka trail. We hike to Barafu Camp. We will have walked for about eight hours with the possibility of sighting both Mawezi and Kibo peaks. Lunch enroute, dinner and overnight at the Camp. (4600m/ 15092ft)
We rise early for Stella point altitude – 5745m on our way to the summit – Uhuru Peak i.e. 5896m/ 19340ft. We will arrive before sunrise. After photography session descend to Barafu for full breakfast, and then descend further down to Mweka Campsite for five hours. Dinner and overnight at the camp. (3100m/ 9000ft).
After breakfast, descend to Mweka Park gate, an average of four hours walks through the rain forest and transfer to Moshi Hotel for hot shower and celebration. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
After breakfast depart for Nairobi on the morning or afternoon shuttle arriving at 0100hrs or 0630hrs, thereafter transfer to the hotel or Transfer to Kilimanjaro International airport for your outbound flight.
