MOUNT KENYA CLIMBING.
‘The Mountain of the Cock Ostrich’
5 Days/ 4 nights Itinerary.
Introduction.
The snow-covered peaks of Kirinyaga (Mt. Kenya) have traditionally been sacred to the Kikuyu and Meru peoples of Kenya highlands. It is here that they commune with their god Engai. Although not as high as Kilimanjaro. Mt. Kenya (17,058) it is in some respects a more interesting trekking the area. Wildlife is more abundant. The high peaks are clustered in a small group and ringed with glaciers, alpine tarns and lakes with splendid alpine views.
On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by Soin Africa Safaris representative and transferred to Park Inn by Radisson Nairobi-Westlands.
Overnight on (Bed and Breakfast).
Depart Early in the morning from Nairobi for Nanyuki (approx.3 hrs. drive) arriving in good time for lunch, thereafter drive for Sirimon Park Gate together with the mountain crew. Begin your three hours hike to Old Moses Camp (3300 m/ 11,000 ft.).
Dinner and overnight at the Hut on (Full Board).
After early breakfast, hike to Shipton’s Camp (4200 m/ 14,000 ft.). This ascent takes about 5 – 7 hrs. Which depends directly on one’s level of physical fitness. Lunch enroute.

You will wake up to a pre-dawn attempt of highest point Lenana, at altitude- (4985m/ 16,355ft). After your photography and viewing session of jagged peaks, descend to Minto’s Hut on the Chogoria trail for a full breakfast. Descend further to Meru and arriving at Mt. Kenya Bandas in the evening. (3029m/ 10,000ft).
Hot shower, dinner and overnight at the Bandas on (Full Board).
Leisurely breakfast, then walk for two hours through the giant bamboo woodland for 10 km, then meet 4x4 Land Cruiser, ready to transfer you to Chogoria village for lunch, thereafter depart for Nairobi arriving in the evening. Transfer to your hotel.
