The wildebeests have returned back to the Mara again for a second time this year. According to the environmentalists, the unusual occurrence is necessitated by the drought that is currently ravaging parts of Serengeti plains. On 02 September 2013, a new value-added tax (VAT) Act was introduced by the Kenyan Revenue Authority whereby previously exempted goods are now subject to a 16% VAT charge, including game drives. At the present time conservancy/park fees for the Masai Mara National Reserve and other parks in Kenya, have not been increased, however, this may change and we will advise accordingly. The new VAT charge will impact our rates where we charge for exclusive use of vehicle or for use of our own vehicle on safari, as well as our Nairobi transfer services.

The wildebeest have made another dramatic come back. Over the last few days, the concentration in the south of the reserve swelled to an enormous number. Most of the herds as per our previous update have made a complete cycle in the past two weeks. They moved from the eastern part of the river, crossed west onto the Mara Triangle, then south into northern Serengeti and east from there before re-entering the Mara, crossing the Sand river south of look out hill. Looking down into northern Serengeti, just beyond the border, one can see thousands of animals on the plains heading north into the Mara. There is now a high concentration of wildebeests south of the Mara triangle. These are now crossing the Mara river east to Lookout hill.
